A shared server is a server that is shared amongst multiple clients. Shared hosting means that multiple web sites with multiple domain names are served from a single web server for multiple clients. The resources of the server such as memory, disk space and bandwidth are shared amongst all of the web sites on the server. This enables web hosting companies to offer cheap web hosting plans to their customers but it is only suitable for sites that don’t receive large amounts of traffic, don’t require 100% uptime and where security is not a high priority (since multiple customers access the same computer there is a risk that someone could access sensitive data from another customer’s account.)
